ITIL ® Intermediate Capability :


Release, Control and Validation


This training delivers the participant practical guidelines for the design, implementation, support and improvement of Release, Control and Validation processes (including Change management, Configuration Management and Release Management) within the organization. Unlike the ITIL Version 3 Foundation, this Capability relates the basic principles and core values through case studies, assignments and discussions to further explore and make it applicable. For example, within ITIL version 3 Foundation, the concept "CAB” will be interpreted, but within the Capability RCV, it is shown how a CAB can be setup and structured.

DURATION AND STUDY LOAD
This 4-day training course will be delivered in 2 times 2 days with time in between to prepare additional assignments. In addition to the trainingcourse an average of 20 hours study should be spend in order to be fully prepared for the exam.

GOAL
After this course candidates will be able to understand and explain the:

  • Importance of Service Management as a concept and it’s principles, goals and objectives;
  • Importance of ITIL Release, Control and Validation to increase quality of service delivery;
  • Interaction and cooperation between the Release, Control and Validation processes and other Service Lifecycle processes and understand how Release, Control and Validation supports other phases in the service lifecycle;
  • Processes, activities, methods and functions of each of the Release, Control and Validation processes;
  • How to monitor performance of the Release, Control and Validation processes;
  • Technology and implementation considerations;
  • Challenges, critical success factors and risks.


This course prepares participants for the examination leading to the ITIL Intermediate Certificate: Release, Control and Validation; a 90-minute exam. It consists of eight multiple choice, scenario-based, gradient scored questions. To help prepare attendees for the final exam, a sample exam is delivered during the course. A passing mark of 70% is required to receive your certificate and 4 ITIL credits.

TRAINING METHOD
The course includes a mix of instructor-led training and hands-on exercises to help participants understand the ITIL concepts, organizational structures, roles, functions and process activities related to these processes. This course also prepares participants for the examination leading to the ITIL Intermediate Certificate: Release, Control and Validation.
 
TARGET GROUP AND PREREQUISITES
The target group of the ITIL Expert Qualification: Release, Control and Validation is:

  • Individuals who have obtained the V3 ITIL Foundation certificate in Service Management, or the V2 Foundation plus the V3 Foundation Bridge certificate and who wish to advance to higher level ITIL certifications;
  • Individuals who require a deep understanding of ITIL Certificate in Release, Control and Validation processes and how it may be used to enhance the quality of IT service support within an organization;
  • IT professionals that are working within an organization that has adopted and adapted ITIL who need to be informed about and thereafter contribute to an ongoing service improvement program;
  • Operational staff involved in Change Management, Release and Deployment Management, Service Validation and Testing, Service Asset and Configuration Management, Request Fulfillment, Service Evaluation and Knowledge Management, who wish to enhance their role based capabilities.


This may include but is not limited to, IT professionals, business managers and business process owners.

Participants are expected to have completed at least senior secondary vocational education or have a similar level of knowledge through practical experience, and they are expected to be involved in the release, control and validation processes (positions such as process manager, developer). This course continues the development of knowledge obtained in the ITIL Foundation course. The ITIL Foundation certificate is required.

    • Service Evaluation.
  • Change management as a capability to realize successful service transition;
  • Service validation and testing as a capability to assure the integrity and the quality of service transition;
  • Service asset and configuration management as a capability to monitor the state of service transition;
  • Knowledge management as part of enhancing the on-going management decision support and service delivery capability;
  • Service request fulfillment and evaluation to assure meeting committed service level performance;
  • Release Control and Validation process roles and responsibilities;
  • Technology and Implementation Considerations;
  • Challenges, Critical Success Factors and risks.
